The boss of a large company had to call one of his employees about an urgent problem with one of the main computers.
He dialed the employee’s home phone number and was greeted with a child’s whisper, “Hello?”
“Is your daddy home?” He asked.
“Yes,” the small voice whispered.
“May I talk to him? the man asked.
To the boss’s surprise, the small voice whispered, “No.”
The boss wanted to speak to an adult and asked, “Is your mom here?”
“Yes,” was the response.
“May I talk to her?
Again, the small voice whispered, “No.”
Knowing that a young child is unlikely to be home alone, the boss decided he would just leave a message for the person who should be there watching over the child.
“Is there anyone there besides you?” the boss asked the child.
“Yes,” the child whispered, “a policeman.”
The boss wondered what a policeman would do at his employee’s home and asked, “May I speak with the policeman?”
“No, he is busy,” the child whispered.
“Busy doing what?” the boss asked.
“Talking to mom and dad and the fireman,” came the whispered answer.
Increasingly concerned and even worried when he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the phone’s earpiece, the boss asked, “What kind of noise is that?”
“A hello-copper,” answered the whispering voice.
“What is happening here?” asked the boss, now alarmed.
The child responded in an awed whispering voice, “The research team has just landed the hello-copper!”
Alarmed, worried, and more than a little frustrated, the boss asked, “The search team?! Why are they here? ”
Still whispering, the young voice answered with a muffled giggle, “They are looking for me!”
