What do you say about that?

The boss called one of his employees into the office.

“Joe,” he said, “you’ve been with the company for a year. You started off in the post room; one week later, you were promoted to a sales position, and one month after that you were promoted to District Manager of the sales department. Just four months later, you were promoted to vice- chairman. Now it’s time for me to retire, and I want you to take over the company. What do you say about that?”

“Thanks!” said Joe.

“Thanks?” the boss replied, “Is that all you can say?”

“I suppose not,” Joe said. “Thanks, Dad!”

A manager in a large company noticed a new man one day and told him to come into his office.

“What is your name?” was the first thing the manager asked the new guy.

“John,” the new guy replied.

The manager scowled, “Look, I don’t know what kind of a place you worked at before, but I don’t call anyone by their first name! It breeds familiarity and that leads to a breakdown in authority. I refer to my employees by their last name only — Smith, Jones, Baker –that’s all. I am to be referred to only as Mr. Robertson. Now that we got that straight, what is your last name?”

The new guy sighed and said, “Darling. My name is John Darling.”

“Okay, John, the next thing I want to tell you is…”

Paul got a part-time job at the Post Office.

He was thrilled, because he had been looking for employment for a while, without any luck.

It wasn’t long before his first day arrived, and he headed to the Post Office brimming with confidence.

The first assignment his supervisor gave him was the job of sorting the mail.

Paul separated the letters so fast that his motions were literally a blur.

His supervisor was astounded as his speed. At the end of the first day, he approached Paul..

“I just want you to know,” the supervisor said, “that I’m very pleased with the job you did today. You’re one of the fastest workers we’ve ever had.”

“Thank you, Sir,” said Paul, beaming, “and tomorrow I’ll try to do even better.”

“Better?” the supervisor asked with astonishment. “How can you possibly do any better than you did today?”

Paul replied, “Tomorrow I’m going to read the addresses!”
