Take a moment. What is the first time that pops into your head?
Is it 1:47? Is it 2:47? Is it somewhere in between?
Just looking at the hands, it seems pretty straightforward, doesn’t it?
The minute hand (the longer one) is pointing towards the bottom.
The hour hand (the shorter one) is pointing near the 2 o’clock position.
So you might think the answer is simple. But hold on a second.

The main hour position is at 20 minutes (the standard 4).
The hand is 3 minutes past that 20-minute mark.
20 + 3 equals 23 minutes.
So, the minutes are 23.
