The picture explicitly asks: “How many squares are in the figure?”
It sounds almost too easy to be true, doesn’t it?
The problem isn’t tricky to read, but it’s designed to make you question your own eyes.
Think of it like a visual obstacle course for your brain.
Your first look might give you an obvious answer, like four or five.
But that’s where the clever design lies.
If you jump to a number quickly, you’re almost certainly missing some!
They are all hiding, just out of plain sight, behind other shapes.
You need to take your time and be very systematic about your search.
Here’s how to do it.
Don’t try to guess the total number all at once.
Instead, let’s look for squares in different size categories.
What is the smallest square you can spot?
Start by counting all of those.
It might be a good idea to count across the columns, or up and down the rows.
Don’t rush; every single count is important.
Ok, now you have a starting number for the small squares.
That’s the first part of your journey!
Now, can you see a larger shape that is also a perfect square?
This is where the real fun begins.
Look at the overlapping lines and the dots again.
Try to trace a shape that looks bigger than the first ones.
Can you find a square made of smaller squares?
Take a deep breath and search for squares made from two grid lines.
This part requires concentration.
Try not to double-count, and don’t skip over any.
Is that all of them, or is there a single, very large square that covers everything?
It’s easy to overlook that one.
Don’t tell your answer to anyone yet!
It’s about being observant.
This is exactly why these types of puzzles are so much fun!
They make us slow down and think instead of just reacting.
The image looks simple, but it has multiple layers.
The black dots and connecting lines are arranged in a specific pattern.
Think of each dot as a connection point.
How do those connections form squares of different sizes?
