I found something truly interesting on the internet recently.
It’s an old, classic brain teaser from the 1960s.
It’s been making people scratch their heads for years.
When I first saw it, it brought back a wave of nostalgia.
These old pictures can be quite a challenge.
Sometimes, the answer is simpler than we think.
Now, take a good look at this picture.
What can you see?
A very common, happy scene of a man relaxing in his living room.
Everything looks very traditional and peaceful.
This picture was likely taken, or drawn to represent, the mid-1960s.
Let’s look at all the clues.
The man is sitting comfortably.
He has a classic smile and is reading a real newspaper.
He is reading the “Evening Standard,” a local paper from a bygone era.
He is wearing traditional glasses.
Next to him is an old rotary dial telephone.
These are becoming rare now!
Everything on that side table screams “vintage.”
Then, we have the larger items in the room.
There is a big, wooden record player on its own cabinet.
This was the center of entertainment in many homes back then.
And look at that wonderful vintage television set.
It has the large screen, the wood casing, and those big knobs.
Above it, we have an original, spiky sunburst clock.
It was a very stylish piece back in its day.
Even the furniture is period-specific.
We have the big, green armchair.
And a different colored, patterned rug.
The family photos on the wall are classic too.
They are older people, in simple clothing, with plain frames.
Finally, we look at the coffee table.
An ashtray, which was very common indoors back then.
And a magazine with a smiling man.
Everything about this scene seems perfectly placed and time-accurate.
But the caption says, “Something Is Wrong Here.”
And “Can You Spot What Does Not Belong?”
So, your job is to find the one item that is a logical paradox.
Think about the dates. Think about inventions.
I’ll give you a small hint: think about technology and how it changes.
Compare every object to the year 1965.
Now, take one more very careful look at everything, especially that coffee table.
Do you see it?

The one item that should not be there…
…is that little, modern, sleek black TV remote control on the table!
Did you get it?
It’s so small and looks so normal to us that it’s easy to miss.
But those old TVs only had buttons on the set!
