So, where should you look to find a ghost?
Ghosts are often associated with floating, right? Or being transparent?
In this specific challenge, we’re not necessarily looking for a translucent figure.
Think about what a physical body must have to function in a regular space.
Everyone here is wearing long, beautiful clothing, so that could hide things.
Let’s do a more systematic scan.
Look at the guests on the far right. The man in the suit is tall and stands firm.
The two women on the far right seem normal. One has a purple dress.
Look at the central group. The woman in the large, beautiful yellow gown is a clear focus.
She has hands and feet and is holding a fan. Nothing strange there.
The tall man in the blue suit next to her looks solid.
Let’s look at the left-hand side of the room.
There is a group of three or four people here.
A tall man in a brown suit. A woman in a vibrant pink dress.
To the very left edge, another woman in a dark blue dress.
She has hands and a clear silhouette.
So, who are we missing?
Ah, look again, very carefully, at the group on the far left.
Specifically, look at the second person from the left edge of the entire group.
This is a woman wearing a light blue dress.
She seems completely normal, a regular guest with her head tilted and arms in front of her.
Now, I want you to look down at the floor, specifically right at her feet.
Do you see what I see? Or rather, what I don’t see?
Take a look at all the other guests.
You can see the shoes or feet of nearly everyone in this ballroom.
You can see the feet of the man in brown, the woman in pink, the woman in purple.
You can clearly see the shoes of the woman in the large yellow dress.
You can even see the shoes of the woman in the dark blue dress on the far left.
But for the woman in the light blue dress, there are no feet or shoes visible on the floor.
Her dress just stops, and the space where her feet should be is completely empty.
She isn’t wearing incredibly large, floor-covering footwear; there’s a clear void.
She is quite literally floating just above the floor, and that’s the telltale sign of a phantom.
So, the uninvited guest, the ghost hiding in plain sight, is the woman in the light blue dress, who is the second person from the far left of the group.
The clever puzzle-maker hid her by making everything else seem so normal, but her missing connection to the ground is the key detail.
