Bill had always been a prankster.

As each of his friends was married, Bill made sure some type of practical joke was played upon them. Now ready to be married himself, he was dreading the payback he knew was coming.

Surprisingly, the ceremony went off without a hitch. No one stood up during the pause to offer a reason ‘why this couple should not be married’. His reception wasn’t disrupted by streakers or smoke-bombs, and the car the couple was to take on their honeymoon was in perfect working order.

When the couple arrived at their hotel and entered the room, Bill even checked for cornflakes in the bed (a gag he had always loved). Nothing, it seemed, was amiss. Satisfied that he had come away unscathed, the couple fell into bed.

Upon waking, the couple was ravenous, so Bill called down to room service and asked, “I’d like to order breakfast for two.”

At that moment, a soft voice from under the bed said, “Make that five.”

Bill and Moe

had started with only five hundred dollars between them, but they had built up a computer business with sales in the millions. Their company employed over two hundred people, and the two executives lived like princes.

Almost overnight, things changed. Sales dropped sharply, former customers disappeared, the business failed, and personal debts forced both into bankruptcy. Bill and Moe blamed each other for the troubles, and they parted on unfriendly terms.

Five years later, Bill drove up to a decrepit diner and stopped for a cup of coffee. As he was discreetly wiping some crumbs from the table, a waiter approached. Bill looked up and gasped.

“Moe!” he said, shaking his head. “It’s a terrible thing, seeing you working in a place as bad as this.”

“Yeah,” Moe said with a smirk. “But at least I don’t eat here.”

Billy Brown decided it was time to buy a new house, so he decided to sell his old house and put the matter in a real estate agent’s hands.

A week later, the agent dropped by with the final draft of the sales blurb. “Take a look at this,” he said, sliding the paper across Billy’s old kitchen table. “Tell me what you think.”

Billy adjusted his glasses and read:

“Charming, sun-drenched cottage nestled in a peaceful neighborhood. Three cozy bedrooms, a welcoming kitchen with vintage charm, and a spacious backyard perfect for family gatherings or quiet reflection. Lovingly maintained and full of character, this home offers warmth, comfort, and timeless appeal. Ideal for those seeking not just a house, but a haven.”

Billy blinked. He read it again, slower this time. He looked up at the agent. “Does my house really have everything your ad says it does?”

The agent grinned, proud of his handiwork. “It certainly does. Why? Did I oversell it?”

Billy set the paper down gently, smiling to himself. “Cancel the sale,” he said, voice warm with finality. “It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
